My 8 year old son and I staying at the Castello for a two week break.
These two weeks each Summer are very precious so I take great care to choose our holiday hotel to make sure we have the best fortnight possible.
You never truly know what you will get until you arrive at a place….I am happy to report that we have found heaven!
We arrived at noon and were checked in quickly and by staff that spoke in English and French which they recognized were our two languages.
A friendly porter took our bags and gave us a short tour of the grounds en route to our room by golf cart.
The rooms are lovely….the right mix of old and new Italian charm…we really love it. Comfortable beds, large bathroom, new air con unit…sky TV…everything we need. The wifi is a little patchy but so what. We are here relax 🙂
Breakfast is good….Italian/continental deli style, fresh cakes, fresh squeezed orange juice and you can ask for any style coffee you want.
Staff all around the hotel are great…polite, discreet, charming and the owner stops in for his breakfast each morning so it’s nice to see him and especially his little dog wandering around.
Gardens are tranquil and very, very taken care of…you can’t fail to relax on arrival.
The whole estate is gated with security so if you have small kids it feels very safe – I really liked this aspect.
Pool is large and never overcrowded, music is soothing. Yes it closes at six but I prefer that instead of having people hanging out by the pool after hours and getting noisy when we are all trying to relax quietly around the place.
Yes, there are weddings but it’s quiet, and they keep them separate from the sleeping rooms…no problem. The way they dress the hotel for the weddings is very beautiful too…it’s an experience to see it.
The beach is good, private and curtained cabanas for all. The sea is sparkling and probably the cleanest sea I have ever swum in….gorgeous.
If you want to get off campus there is a lovely pizzeria just outside the gates towards the beach – it doesn’t look so much but it’s friendly, good wine and the food is great…lovely fresh fish every night.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone….much nicer than tourist crammed Taormina….we like to try somewhere new each summer but honestly….I have a feeling we will be back here again in the next few years….we love it!!!!
