We have travelled extensively throughout the world and have stayed in many 4* and 5* hotels (Carribbean/Asia/Europe/US/ Indian Ocean etcetc)and Castello di San Marco is one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in.
The grounds are beautiful, the vegetables and fruits are grown organically within the grounds, the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced (the hotel manager goes to the fish market for fresh fish everyday), the service is highly attentive (drinks served to you by the pool) and extremely efficient, the hotel itself and rooms are gorgoeus and fantasically decorated. My wife badly cut her finger in the room and despite having our own car- the front of house manager insisted on driving us to the hospital and helping us out at A&E – thats service for you!!!Despite previous complaints about weddings – ignore them, there were 3 weddings whilst we were there and we hardly heard a sound and hardly noticed that they were going on. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and suggest you go there if you want pure luxury and peace and quiet before it becomes too well known – and trust me – we are very fussy!! Although Taormina is only 10-15 minutes away you will need a car as its too far to walk or a taxi is about 15Euro’s each way.
Everything about this hotel, the grounds,the pool (lie back and stare at mount etna),the private beach (50 yards away so you dont hear any noise if you dont want to) the restaurants, the bar (a converted barn with a 100 year old grape/wine press in it and beams etc) the service, the genuine friendliness,effieciency and helpfullness of the staff is just too good to be true – they really go out of their way to help you and make you feel comfortable – nothing is a problem for them. This really was a complete gem of a find and we can’t stipulate enough – one of the best hotels in the world… and we have stayed in hundreds!!!
